We are back with another episode of Open House – this edition oozes sexy, driving, deep, and techy grooves… Today, Franco Benito & JOY (aka Ken Hankins) are holding down the show; two of L.A.’s tech house pioneers – a nice way to get the weekend kicked off in the right direction…

Franco Benito has been in the scene for more than 10 years. In May of 2007, he co-founded Incognito, an electronic music event company in Los Angeles that has featured renowned international talent such as James Holden, Jesse Saunders, Oliver Huntemann, Marshall Jefferson, Eric Kupper, Dave Seaman, Lee Burridge, Jon Rundell, Paul Thomas, Oliver Moldan, Wasted Chicago Youth (Justin Long & Mazi), Chloe Harris, Samantha James, and Miles Maeda to name just a few. This has given Franco the opportunity to play alongside some of the best in the scene, and  to grace the decks of venues such as King King, Circus Disco, Avalon in Los Angeles; Tapas, iLounge, Code, Brussells in Orange County; plus underground parties in San Francisco & Los Angeles. And he has also rocked the dance floors of Ascend & Alchemy in Manila, Philippines. If you haven’t checked out Franco Benito or Incognito, do it!

Forward thinking, dynamic, precedent setting, all express JOY’s talent as a DJ and recording artist. JOY unfailingly stands for quality over quantity, substance over style, which is why he has a remarkable forté for selecting exceptional music. JOY’s DJ sets intelligently rock underground party scenes in Los Angeles. He spins a fusion of techno and house with Latin based tribal rhythms, mixed with progressive Detroit techno and sparsely diced with tech-house and minimal. His music is melodic and heavy bass driven, swinging house grooves, funky basslines, focused on a strong sense of melody, all while giving special attention towards arrangements and long mixes.  His forthcoming 80-minute debut hard-ambient dub album seductively titled, “Soft Whisper”, has been three years in the making to kick off his own label imprint, Electrobass Music, this summer 2010.  It can be heard in full-length at www.electrobass.com. If you are into ambient, or down-tempo, you will really dig the album. Anyway, for the next hour he is yours – turn it up 🙂
